Things You'll Need
- Inverter
- 1/2 inch wrench or socket
- 120 volt battery
Instructions
Connect the positive cables from the battery to the inverter. The positive terminal of the battery is covered with red safety covering. Connect the clip from the battery's positive terminal to the DC or direct current disconnect. This is a small box with a series of switches and ports on it. Connect the second positive cable from the battery to another positive port in the DC disconnect. Connect the third cable from the DC disconnect to the L2 inverter positive port. L1 (Level 1) and L2 (Level 2) inverters are boxes with the + and -- ports on their right sides. Lastly, connect the fourth cable from the DC disconnect to the L1 inverter positive port. Perform the same procedures on the negative ports of the inverter, battery and DC disconnect. The negative port in the battery is covered with black safety covering.
Tighten the connections. Use the wrench to tighten all the nuts in the wiring. Make sure the ports are connected correctly: positive to positive, negative to negative ports. The ports have small + and -- signs on them. Never attempt to use an inverter with incorrectly connected ports. This might damage the whole system. Be careful when connecting the wires with each other.
Cover the terminals. After everything is done, replace the color-coded covers for the terminals in the battery to distinguish which one is the positive port and which one is the negative port. The cover for the positive port is red and the cover for the negative port is black.
