How to Make Hairspray for Dogs Out of Oranges

According to The Puppy Dog Place, to avoid drying out your dog's skin and causing itching, you should not wash your dog more than once a month. In a month's time, your dog's natural scent can become overwhelming, making him unpleasant to pet and play with. Scented hair spray, applied when grooming your canine companion, will help disguise his natural scent with something more pleasing. An orange spray provides a fresh scent and is safe to use on your dog if made correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Peel a fresh orange and reserve the peel for the hair spray. The fruit of the orange is not necessary for the spray.

    • 2

Pour four cups of water into a large pot and add the orange peel. Do not squeeze any of the orange's juice into the water, as it can be harmful to your dog.

    • 3

Place the pot onto a stove top over medium heat and leave to simmer for two hours. When finished, less than one cup of water should remain in the pan.

    • 4

Pour the water through a strainer and into a funnel to filter it into an 8-oz. spray bottle.

    • 5

Refrigerate the water for four hours before using on your dog. Mist your dog's fur with a thin, even coat of the hairspray and brush until dry. Keep the water refrigerated for up to one month before discarding any unused portion.

    • 6

Repeat the application no more than once daily to keep your dog's fur smelling fresh.
