How to Remove a Stink Bug Smell From a Dog

Stink bugs are like skunks because they can spray a foul-smelling liquid onto your dog if it disturbs the bug. Although many people believe bathing your dog in tomato juice will remove bad odors from fur, this will just stain your dog red. Mix a homemade shampoo made with commercial skunk eliminator, an odor-eliminating cleaning agent made from natural ingredients, to help remove the smell from its coat. Dogs hate the bad odor of skunks and stink bugs as much as humans do so cleaning the dog thoroughly and quickly will make both of you happy.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a homemade odor eliminator shampoo. Add 2 tbsp. of skunk odor eliminator, 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1 qt. of hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tsp. of baby shampoo to a container and stir.

    • 2

Fill a bathtub halfway with warm water. Make sure it is not too hot or too cold or the dog will be uncomfortable and will try to jump out.

    • 3

Wet the dog's coat thoroughly. Use a hand-held shower head or a cup to gather the water and pour it over the dog. Make sure the undercoat is also saturated.

    • 4

Apply the homemade odor eliminator shampoo to the dog's fur. Work up a lather by running your fingers through the dog's coat and agitating the mixture in the fur. Lather every part of the dog, including the tail, undercoat and head.

    • 5

Rinse the dog thoroughly. Spray the fur with the shower head or pour water over the dog until every trace of the lather is gone.

    • 6

Reapply the odor eliminator shampoo. Repeat the lathering process.

    • 7

Comb the lather through the dog fur with a dog brush. This will thoroughly work the lather through the fur. Clean in between the dog's toes with your fingers.

    • 8

Rinse the dog again. Start at the head and work your way toward the back end of the dog. Remember to rinse the undercoat well because the lather will collect there as you are rinsing.

    • 9

Apply conditioner to the dog's fur. This will help soften the fur after the odor eliminator shampoo cleans it. Work the conditioner into the dog's fur with your fingers. Rinse the dog's fur again.

    • 10

Wrap your dog in a towel. Dry your dog off by patting the dog's fur with the towel or rubbing the towel back and forth over the dog's coat.
