How to Shave Your Shi Tzu

Shih Tzus naturally have a lot of hair. If you don't brush the dog's hair diligently, several times per day, the hair gets matted. Once that happens, the matted hair will cause pain by pulling on the dog's skin and will make brushing your dog's hair that much more difficult. In this case, shaving your Shih Tzu is your best option.

Instructions

    • 1

Prep your area by having a trash container and vacuum nearby. Shaving a Shih Tzu can generated a lot of hair.

    • 2

Sit on the floor with your dog in your lap. Speak to your dog in a calm tone so as not to scare him.

    • 3

Start shaving from the base of the tail upward toward the neck, using an electric razor with a No. 7 blade. Continue shaving in this direction for the remainder of the back.

    • 4

Remove the No. 7 blade and insert the No. 10 blade. Roll you dog onto its back to shave the belly, rear and the inside of the legs.

    • 5

Trim the head, face, ears, paws and tail using scissors. Shih Tzus should have longer hair on the face, and always have hair on their tail.

    • 6

Bathe your Shih Tzu and dry him completely.
