How to Rinse Out a Dog's Eye

Rinsing out a dog's eye from time to time is important to prevent bacterial infections. Bacterial infections in dogs' eyes are relatively common. Dogs tend to mess around with their eyes, and excessive discharge can generate in the eyes. Breeds with large flaps of skin around their eyes or with drooping eyes require even more attention. Whatever kind of dog you have, simple homemade water mixtures will keep your dog's eye healthy and infection-free.

Instructions

  1. Saline Rinse

    • 1

Heat 8 oz. purified mineral water until it is lukewarm.

    • 2

Mix 1/2 tsp. salt with the purified lukewarm mineral water in a cup.

    • 3

Pour the saline water over the dog's forehead, allowing it to run over his eyes. This is a good way to avoid any unnecessary pressure to the eyes.

    • 4

Clean out the eyes gently with a fine tissue or piece of cloth.

    • 5

Check whether any debris remained in the corners of the eye. If necessary, repeat the process.

    Chamomile Rinse

    • 6

Bring 8 oz. of water to a boil.

    • 7

Place five chamomile tea bags into the water. Steep them for a few minutes.

    • 8

Wait for the water to cool to lukewarm and remove the tea bags.

    • 9

Put the tea bags on the dog's eye. Press the tea bags so the fluid will flow over the dog's eyes.

    • 10

Dry the solution with a clean tissue.
