How to Remove Hair From My Miniature Shnauzer's Ears

Miniature schnauzers have a double layer coat of hair that requires regular grooming and trimming. They also sometimes have hair growing inside the ear canal, which can cause problems with ear infections due to trapped moisture. It's important that the hair on the inside and outside of the ear be kept short. You can pay a groomer to trim your dog for you, or you can save money by doing it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the dog's ear flat on your hand if your schnauzer has uncropped ears. Have an assistant hold the dog's head if necessary.

    • 2

Run the clippers down the outside of the dog's ear, starting at the skull and following the direction of the hair. Always run the clippers from the center of the ear outward. Be careful not to nick the ear at the edge.

    • 3

For dogs with cropped ears, start the clippers at the base of the skull and follow the direction of the hair to the point of the dog's ear.

    • 4

Trim the hair at the fringe of the ear with a pair of scissors. Remove any excess hair from the ear canal by grasping it with a pair of tweezers or hemostats and pulling outward.
