Homemade Herbal Dog Shampoo

Herbal shampoos for dogs can help soothe irritated skin, improve coat, and help control fleas and ticks. To ensure that your dog's shampoo is free of additives and unwanted chemicals, make it yourself at home. There are many recipes you can easily blend to suit your particular pet's coat and skin conditions.

  • White or apple cider vinegar
  • Castile soap
  • Glycerin
  • 400 IU Vitamin E
  • Fresh herbs
  • Oatmeal

Instructions

      Mix shampoo base. Blend 1 cup white or apple cider vinegar, 1 cup castile soap, 1 qt. water and 1/3 cup glycerin and stir well. Add essential oils and herbs for specific uses.

      Add rosemary and Vitamin E oil to the mixture to get rid of fleas. Add crushed fresh rosemary and 400 IU Vitamin E oil to shampoo base.

      Mix aloe vera into shampoo base for irritated skin. You can use fresh aloe vera plants that have been macerated in a blender or purchase aloe vera gel.

      Add rosemary, aloe vera and oatmeal to shampoo base for dogs with dry, flaky skin.

      Prepare shampoo with lavender, cedar sandalwood or orange essential oils to improve the smell of the dog's coat. Add 10 to 20 drops of your favorite oil or blends of oils to the shampoo base.
