How to Wash a Dog With Dry Ingredients

Dog grooming is a part of owning a pet. Washing a dog can be a huge undertaking, especially if you have a large dog. One way to reduce the stress and mess is to use dry ingredients to clean the dog. There are many dry shampoos on the market, but you can also use ingredients to clean your dog that are already in your kitchen. Using dry ingredients is a much easier way to clean out the dirt and oil from a dog's coat. Not using water to wash the dog saves time and energy.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass jar
  • Measuring cup
  • Flour, cornstarch, unscented talc or baby powder
  • Baking soda and/or table salt
  • Brush for dogs

      Pour into a clean glass jar 1 cup of one of the following ingredients: flour, cornstarch, unscented talc, or baby powder. You can also add ½ cup of baking soda to remove odors or ½ cup of table salt to remove excess oil.

      Place the lid on the jar and shake vigorously to mix the ingredients.

      Locate a place in your home to dry shampoo the dog that you can easily vacuum afterward.

      Brush the dog thoroughly to remove all surface dirt and loose hair. Remove tangles and mats that you find.

      Shake a small amount of the dry ingredients onto the dog's coat. Avoid getting the ingredients into the dog's nose and eyes. Let the ingredients stay on the dog for five to 10 minutes,

      Brush the dog's coat repeatedly to remove the dirt, oil and odors.
