How to Use a Cordless Trimmer on Silky Terrier Dogs

The Silky Terrier dog has very fine hair and the texture is similar to that of human hair. The hair of a Silky Terrier requires regular grooming. For proper grooming, the Silky Terrier should be combed at least twice a week and have its ears, nose, legs and feet trimmed of long hair. A small cordless trimmer works well for clipping a Silky Terrier.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Silky Terrier on the grooming table so that it is at least waist high for the groomer, and use the leash to tie the dog in place so it can't jump off the table.

    • 2

Use the fine tooth comb to remove any tangles from the hair around the ears, nose, legs and feet.

    • 3

Hold the head of the dog in your hand by placing your thumb under the dog's jaw and wrapping your fingers around the back of the dog's head.

    • 4

Turn the cordless clippers over so they can be moved through the long hair on the dog's nose like a comb. The clippers will remove hair without making a blunt cut. Repeat the process until the desired length is reached on both sides of the nose.

Turn the clippers over in your hand and gently move them along the edge of the ears and inside the ears to remove the long hair in the ears.

Use your hand to spread the toenails of the foot of the Silky Terrier and gently move the clippers between each of the toe nails. Continue to hold the foot and run the clipper up the leg of the Silky Terrier to remove the long hair between the foot and the knee. Be careful not to catch the hair from the body of the Silky Terrier with the clippers. Repeat this step for the other three feet and legs.
