Cedar Chips
-
Cedar chips and essential oils will keep fleas away. Spread chips under your furniture and bedding and around your home, especially at doors and windows, to repel fleas. You can also place a little cedar essential oil on your pet's collar, says The Daily Puppy.
Lemon and Orange Peel
-
Make an infusion of lemon or orange peel, and rinse your pet with it and spray it around your home to kill fleas. To make the infusion, boil one cup of water for every lemon or orange peel, and keep boiling the mixture until the peels become soft. Liquefy the mixture in a blender, strain it into a jar and funnel it into a spray bottle. Rinse your pet with the mixture after his bath, and spray the solution in your home wherever fleas are a problem. Spray again after a month to kill fleas who might have hatched in the meantime, says Mother Earth News.
Salt
-
Salt dehydrates fleas and dissolves their exoskeletons. Spread salt all over your floors before you go to work or sleep, and then vacuum up the salt and deceased pests, recommends The Daily Puppy.
Herbs
-
Citronella, rosemary and wormwood, which you can purchase at health food stores, are non-toxic herbs that repel fleas. Hang sachets of the dried herbs around your home to keep fleas out, and make flea repellent sprays with the essential oils.
