How to Oil an Oster A5

Oster A5 clippers are heavy duty units designed for animal grooming. These clippers are marketed to professional groomers and are built to stand up to constant use. The A5 series is available in single- and dual-speed versions with up to 3,100 strokes per minute. The blades regularly require oiling during normal use. The gears will require greasing at intervals and should be checked once a month. Be careful not to over-lubricate as this can cause damage or reduce cutting efficiency.

Instructions

  1. Lubricating the Blades

    • 1

Plug in the clipper and turn it on.

    • 2

Apply one drop of lubricating oil to either end of the blades. The blades should be lubricated at intervals of one to two hours of regular use.

    • 3

Use Oster Kool Lube spray every few minutes, if desired, to cool the blades and reduce wear from friction. Apply a quick spray over the blade area.

    Lubricating the Gears

    • 4

Turn off the unit and disconnect the electrical cord.

    • 5

Use a small flat screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the nameplate on the unit. It is only necessary to check the gears once per month.

    • 6

Remove the nylon drive lever, the metal link and the gear.

    • 7

Insert the nozzle of the grease tube into the opening on the top of the gear post. If grease does not pass through you may need to clean the holes.

    • 8

Put the metal link and gear back in place. Use a very small amount of grease on the gear teeth and linkage.

    • 9

Replace the nylon drive lever. Use the screwdriver to replace the nameplate using the two screws.
