How to Glue Sheltie Ears

As a purebred dog, Shelties are relative newcomers to the world of breeding. They were registered in the UK Kennel Club in 1909. They were described by visitors to the Shetland Islands in 1844. They are part of the herding category of dogs, about 14 inches tall and long-haired. Their owners enjoy showing them. In order to meet the stringent qualifications of being a show dog, owners glue the ears down gently to the dog's head. This is painless and makes the ears grow uniformly.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that your Sheltie is clean. If it is not, bathe it with a dog shampoo and conditioner and let him dry.

    • 2

Brush the dog thoroughly to remove any tangles, especially in the area around the ears.

    • 3

Place a drop of fabric glue on the hair of the tip of one ear. Do this closer to the inner side of the ear.

    • 4

Locate the longer hairs that grow on the inside edge of the ear. Place the tip beneath the lower hairs of the inside edge.

    • 5

Repeat this for the other ear but be sure that you glue both ears in the same place so that they are even. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 6

Gently comb the back of both ears from the inside edge. Comb from the front to the back of the inside edge. Once you are satisfied with the way the ears are situated, hold them together and place a drop or two of glue to hold them in place.
