How to Attach Grommets for Grooming

Many dog groomers use grooming slings, which suspend the dog comfortably so that the groomer can reach around them and ensure they are fully groomed. This makes grooming nervous or old dogs much easier, and also speeds up the grooming process. Typically, these slings are made of thick duck canvas, which holds the weight of the dog. Making a sling like this is quite simple and inexpensive.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the duck canvas to size. This needs to be relatively thick, to ensure it remains strong. The actual size will depend on the size of the dog which you wish to groom, but 6 inches is typically adequate. You could measure this on your dog, by measuring the distance between the back of his front legs and the front of his back legs, and subtracting two inches from this number.

    • 2

Punch three holes in one of the short sides of the canvas rectangle, and another three opposite these. A large hole punch is adequate for this.

    • 3

Push grommets into these holes. Ensure that they fit well into the canvas.

    • 4

Sew the sides of the canvas to make a neat, comfortable seam.

    • 5

Attach the chain through the grommets, and to the eye screws in the ceiling.
