How to Care For a Great Dane's Teeth

Dental care is an often overlooked area of Great Dane grooming. Giving your Dane bones to chew on reduces the need for brushing its teeth, but it does not eliminate it. Gum disease is a common problem for older dogs, and there is also a link between gum disease and heart problems. Fortunately, caring for your Great Dane's teeth is an easy process, especially due to its size and temperament. A Dane's large mouth makes reaching the teeth simple, and these dogs typically enjoy all aspects of grooming.

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze the dog toothpaste onto the toothbrush. Use the amount directed on the toothpaste tube. Dog toothpaste typically comes in flavors like peanut butter or chicken, so your Great Dane should like the taste.

    • 2

Push the jowls away from the teeth gently in the area in which you are cleaning. Brush in a circular motion all around the teeth. Do not brush too hard, lest you accidentally damage the gums rather than stimulate them.

    • 3

Continue brushing until all of the teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, adding more toothpaste to the brush as needed. There is no need to rinse your Great Dane's mouth after brushing; the toothpaste is safe to ingest.
