How do I Sharpen a Furminator?

The FURminator was specifically designed to easily and efficiently groom your animals and keep your house pet-hair-free. Available in three standard sizes--large, medium and small--the FURminator can accommodate any animal. However, the blades sustain wear and tear and require upkeep. The large and medium FURminators are made with removable blades so they can easily be replaced once the blade has gone dull. The small FURminator's blade cannot be replaced and requires sharpening.

Instructions

    • 1

Firmly grip the FURminator with the blade right side up and place the hilt of the knife sharpener against the first few prongs on the blade.

    • 2

Pull the knife sharpener in a downward motion, pressing firmly against the FURminator blade at the same time. Be sure to use the entire length of your knife sharpener and stay only on the first few prongs of the blade. Lift the knife sharpener before you reach the tips of the prongs to avoid chipping them or breaking them off, which could ruin the pet-grooming tool.

    • 3

Move the knife sharpener to the next few prongs on the blade and repeat the process. Continue across the FURminator blade until all prongs have been sharpened.

    • 4

Turn the FURminator over so the underside of the blade is exposed. Repeat the same procedure until this side of the blade has also been sharpened.
