Baking Soda for a Dog Bath

Baking soda comes in handy for baking and for keeping your fridge smelling fresh. It can also be a handy tool for grooming your dog.
  1. Why Baking Soda

    • Baking soda can be used to strip away the smell from a dog that has encountered a skunk, according to "Dog Grooming for Dummies." It can also be used as a dry shampoo to clean your dog's coat when you cannot give him a full bath.

    Skunk Odor

    • For a dog reeking of skunk, a combination of half a quart of hydrogen peroxide, a quarter-cup of baking soda and a teaspoon of dish soap will create a deodorizing bath. In extreme cases, you may need to bathe your dog more than once to get rid of the smell.

    Dry Shampoo

    • You can sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on your dog's coat, then rub it in as a dry shampoo. Afterward, brush your dog well. The baking soda will restore shine and deodorize your dog's fur.
