Things You'll Need
- Gentle shampoo
- Towels
- Brush
Instructions
Brush your dog's coat before applying the water and shampoo to avoid tangles and matted fur.
Locate a bathtub, shower or sink to wash your dog in, depending on the size of your dog. Bathing the dog outside would also be a smart option so you can avoid a mess, but only if the weather permits.
Wet your dog from neck to tail, avoiding spraying water directly in its face. The head, face and ears can be washed with a soft rag, shampoo and water, making sure to avoid the eyes. Then wash the dog beginning at the neck and work your way back. Make sure not to miss any areas. Make sure to get a good lather so you know you are getting the dog clean.
Rinse very thoroughly, making sure that you do not leave any soap on your dog. Rinse until the water runs clear. Any shampoo left on your dog may cause skin irritations.
Dry your dog. Wrap a towel around your dog so it does not shake water everywhere if you are bathing it inside. Dry it as thoroughly as possible with the towel. If you choose, you can also dry the dog with a hairdryer set to a low temperature.
