Safe Way to Rid Puppy From Fleas

When a puppy gets fleas, it can be a huge problem because most of the things you use to get rid of fleas on dogs shouldn't be used on a puppy. This is particularly true of puppies that are under 12 weeks of age. You can treat a puppy that has fleas, you just need to be mindful of the products you use. For this reason, many people take a more natural approach when treating a flea infestation in puppies.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb your puppy with a flea comb to remove fleas and flea eggs. Do this at least once daily and after your puppy has been outside. Drop any fleas or flea eggs you remove in a cup of rubbing alcohol.

    • 2

Mix a homemade shampoo of 1 qt. water, 1 cup vinegar, 1/3 cup glycerin and 1 cup mild lemon-scented dish soap. Put the ingredients in a container with a lid and shake well before each use.

    • 3

Wash your puppy with the homemade shampoo. Start at the neck and work your way toward the tail. Lather well, but do not get shampoo in your puppy's eyes, ears or nose. Use the flea comb during the bath to comb out fleas and flea eggs.

    • 4

Rinse your puppy thoroughly to remove all shampoo suds, fleas and flea eggs. Towel dry your puppy to remove excess water. Make sure your home is not drafty or cold while your puppy dries.

    • 5

Wash all your puppy's bedding and soft toys in hot water with laundry detergent and 2 cups vinegar added to the load.

    • 6

Vacuum your home and your puppy's living quarters thoroughly. Place a flea collar in your vacuum bag so fleas and eggs die inside the vacuum bag. Discard the vacuum bag outside of your home when you are finished vacuuming.

    • 7

Cut six lemons in half and put them in a pot of water. Bring the water to a boil and allow the lemons to steep for at least three hours. Put the lemon water in an empty spray bottle. Shake well before each use. Mist your puppy's fur with the lemon water and rub it in. Do not get it on your puppy's face.
