How to Bath Dogs with Baby Shampoo

Dogs are sensitive to certain soaps, just as humans are. To protect your dog from eye irritation and allergic reaction to harsh soaps, you may want to try bathing your dog with baby shampoo. Baby shampoo is made with ingredients that are less irritating to the eyes and skin, and they contain agents that are hypoallergenic. Baby shampoo can be a gentler alternative to regular shampoo for your dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a bottle of baby shampoo.

    • 2

Fill your bathtub one-third full with lukewarm water. This amount of water will lessen the chances that your dog will make a mess with the water. Put a large towel on the floor beside the tub to absorb any sloshed water.

    • 3

Pick your dog up and put her in the tub.

    • 4

Wet your dog with the water from the tub. Use your hands, a bowl or a bathing sponge to get your dog wet.

    • 5

Pour a quarter-size amount of baby shampoo in your hand. Work the shampoo into your dog’s fur until you produce a good lather all over its body. Continue to wash the dog for at least a minute after you've created the lather.

    • 6

Rinse the shampoo off your dog with lukewarm water from the tub faucet. Use your hands, a bowl or a bathing sponge. Shampoo and rinse the dog again.

    • 7

Dry the upper part of your dog's body while she's still in the tub. Lift her out of the tub and place her on the towel next to the tub. Finish drying your dog with a large towel.
