How to Remove Tear Stains With Blueing

White animals may be pretty to look at, but those bright white coats can be a challenge to maintain. Pets are prone to food stains around their mouths and tear stains under their eyes, which can make them appear unkempt. Most animals have minimal traces of tear stains, but they are especially pronounced on white animals. Bluing can be used to remove tear stains without harming the skin of the animal.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the animal in the bath tub and rinse the tear stains with warm water. Scrub the tear stains gently with a soft toothbrush to loosen debris around the eye. Use your fingers to remove crusty buildup in the corners of the eyes.

    • 2

Pour 1 oz. bluing in a small bowl and dip a cotton ball in the solution. Rub the cotton ball over the tear stain, forcing it into the coat and down to the skin. Bluing works by lifting brown and yellow stains from the coat and helps the white coat appear more vibrant.

    • 3

Leave the bluing on the stains for 10 minutes, then rinse with plenty of warm water. If the area is still stained, reapply the bluing and leave for another 10 minutes to remove any remaining stains.

    • 4

Flush the animal’s eyes with saline solution to rinse away any residual bluing near the eye. Saline solution is safe to use on animals and will wash away bluing before it comes in contact with the eye.

Dry the animal with a towel before removing it from the bath tub. Rub the face gently with a soft towel to remove as much water as possible, then turn the animal loose and allow its coat to air dry.
