Doggie Hairstyles

Whether you are thinking about a low-maintenance clip for your dog or you would like to help make your long-furred dog cooler, it may be time to think about a hairstyle change. Dog hair can be styled and clipped much like human hair can be, and learning about the different types of clips that are available can help you make your choice.
  1. Puppy Cut

    • The puppy cut is also known as a teddy bear cut, and it is a simple style that is popular for many breeds. The dog's fur is clipped short, but the hair around the dog's face and legs remains full. This is a style with simple care requirements and it can help keep a long-haired dog comfortable in the summer.

    Lion Cut

    • A lion cut is a type of hairstyle where most of the hair on the dog is clipped short, with the hair at the head, neck, legs and the tip of the tail left long. This style is meant to mimic a lion's tail tuft and mane. The longer fur on this cut may also be shaved and tidied to give it a neater appearance.

    Lamb Clip

    • In a lamb clip the groomer trims the head, tail and legs with scissors while the back, belly and neck are all trimmed to a uniform length. The groomer may shave down the face or cut it to the same length as the back. This style ideally has a fluffy look that resembles the wool of a lamb.

    Kennel Clip

    • For a kennel clip the body hair is short all over while the face, the feet and the base of the tail are shaved very closely. In poodles, the hair at the top of the head and the end of the tail may be left longer than the the hair on the rest of the body. This is a low-maintenance clip that is also known as the utility clip.
