Instructions
Put a collar and a leash on your dachshund and then attach the leash to something, so your dog cannot flee while being groomed. You can groom your dog in the bathroom, as cleaning dog hair from bathroom tiles is generally easier and this will also prevent your dog's hair from getting all over your home.
Brush your dachshund with a small dog brush to remove any tangles or matted fur that he may have. It is important to do this prior to clipping your animal; failure to do so can result in yanking the tangled fur with the clipper, which can be painful for the animal.
Turn on your electric dog clipper; make sure that you have placed a blade that is suitable for wire hair dogs onto it prior to beginning. Begin running your clipper gently in the direction in which your dog's hair grows. Start from the middle of his back and run the blade across it, being careful not to do this too quickly, as it could result in having your dog's hair look uneven.
Run your clipper over the ears gently while holding the ears flat on your hand. Only go over the top parts of your dog's ears once or twice to remove any shaggy hairs that are there. Go over your dog's legs, once again making sure to go in the direction that the hair is growing.
Use scissors to trim your dog's beard and paws. In order to do this, simply trim the hairs to a desirable length; usually leaving 1/2 an inch of hair on the beard is best. In terms of the paws, cut the hairs back, allowing your pet's nails to show slightly and making sure to clip the top of the paws too, leaving them smooth.
How to Clip a Wire Hair Dachsund
Wire hair dachshunds are wonderful companions best known for their long backs and short legs. Unlike short hair dachshunds, this wire hair breed requires a more rigorous grooming process that goes beyond simple bathing. You will need to not only make sure to keep your dachshund's body clipped but his facial fur and paws as well. Whether your wire hair dachshund is a show dog or simply a family pet, it is important to keep this breed well clipped to avoid matting.
