How to Wash a Mauser Dog

The mauzer is a cross between two popular dog breeds, the miniature schnauzer and the maltese. This breed can often vary in appearance, as some closely resemble the schnauzer while others favor the maltese side. Regardless of individual characteristics, the mauzer always has a thick wire coat that can often become dirty and unkempt, but you can wash this coat yourself at home without the need for professional dog groomers.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your dog thoroughly before you begin bathing. Due to the thick fur coat, the mauzer collects a great deal of loose fur and pet dander that must be eliminated. A simple dog brush will do the trick.

    • 2

Place cotton balls in your dog's ears in order to absorb any water. Excess water in the ear canal can lead to infection, according to the website Maltese Only.

    • 3

Fill a bathtub or sink with lukewarm water. Fill it to approximately half the height of your mauzer and place her gently in the water. She may find the water unpleasant at first, so do not be surprised if she begins to fidget in your arms.

    • 4

Cover all of your dog's skin and fur with water. Do not fully submerge him, but use your hand or a small cup to fully saturate the animal. Just make sure not to get any of it in his eyes or ears.

    • 5

Place a dab of gentle dog shampoo on your mauzer's back, head and legs, and use your hands to lather the shampoo across fur with a gentle massage. When purchasing a shampoo, look for words on the label like "Gentle," "Tearless" or "Tender."

    • 6

Rinse the shampoo completely with warm water and apply a second lather. Rinse a second time and make sure to eliminate all traces of shampoo from the fur.

    • 7

Use a damp cloth to gently eliminate any mucus around the eyes.

    • 8

Remove your dog from the sink or bathtub and dry her off with a towel. Do not allow her to wander outside in cold weather while still damp.
