Things You'll Need
- Nail clippers
- Person to help
- Dog treats
Instructions
Trim the dog's nails in a quiet environment if possible. Loud noises or a lot of distractions can make the dog more nervous.
Talk to the dog softly and give it a massage to help it relax. Be sure to gently massage down the dog's legs and paws.
Pick up the dog's paw while the other person continues to massage and speak softly to the dog. Trim the dog's nails, being careful not to cut the dog's nails too short.
Trim the nails on the remaining paws. If the dog becomes agitated at any point, calm it down by massaging it before continuing.
Give the dog praise and perhaps a treat once the nail trimming is complete.
