How to Stop the Dog Smell on Dogs

You love your furry family members and want them to be able to live in harmony with the rest of the family. Sometimes the odors associated with your dogs can become so overwhelming that you are forced to take action, either by putting Fido outside or coming up with a solution to stop the odor. Start by bathing and grooming the dog to get rid of obvious odor sources.

Things You'll Need

1 large box of baking soda
1 large bottle of hydrogen peroxide
1 bottle of oatmeal pet shampoo
1 bottle of pet creme rinse
Brush or brushes best fit for your dog's hair type
Hair dryer
Towels
Muzzle, if your pet is a biter

  Clean your bathtub with an even mixture of baking soda and peroxide. This is safe for the pet and will not cause irritation like household cleaning agents might.

  Line the floor near the tub with clean towels and make sure the area is free of any sharp objects and debris.

  Put the dog's muzzle on if it has been known to bite or if you suspect your pet might bite you.

  Run enough warm water in the tub so that the depth is equal to the dog's knees. Place your pet in the water and wet its hair thoroughly with the shower sprayer.

  Coat your dog's hair in a high-quality oatmeal shampoo. Oatmeal will help cleanse, kill odor and moisturize your pet's skin and hair. Scrub until all debris and dirt are gone from your pet's body. Rinse and repeat the process.

  Coat the dog's hair evenly with the oatmeal-based creme rinse. Let it sit for a couple minutes and rinse with clean water.

  Take the dog out of the tub and towel-dry to prevent drips.

  Blow-dry your pet using a hair dryer on the coolest setting. Don't forget important areas such as under the belly and under legs, which can harbor odor-producing bacteria that thrive in dampness.

  Brush out the dog's hair and pull out any mats, using your grooming brushes once the dog is completely dry.

  Repeat steps 1 through 9 once or twice a week.
