Homemade Shampoo for Dogs With Allergies

Dogs with healthy, normal skin don't scratch incessantly or develop rashes. Yet, some dogs have allergies that are triggered by certain foods, flea deterrent topicals or other allergens that can cause itchy, irritated skin and result in scratching and discomfort for the animals. One way to help soothe your pet's skin and give it some relief from the irritation of scratching is to bathe it in a homemade shampoo for dogs with allergies.

Instructions

  1. Soothing Shampoo

    • 1

Measure and pour 1/3 cup of glycerin,1 cup lemon liquid Joy, 1 cup white vinegar and 1 quart of water through a funnel into a liter-size bottle.

    • 2

Put the lid on the bottle tightly and shake to mix the ingredients.

    • 3

Use the mixture as a shampoo whenever your dog seems to be irritated or itchy. Leftover shampoo can be saved in a tightly closed bottle for at least three months. Always shake the bottle before using to remix the contents.

    Oatmeal Scrub

    • 4

Pour 1 cup of colloidal oatmeal in a bowl. Add 1 cup of warm water and stir with a spoon to combine thoroughly until you have a pasty substance.

    • 5

Pour the oatmeal mixture into a large, clean sock and tie off the top with a twist tie or by looping the top of the sock around itself and pulling it back through the hole to form a knot.

    • 6

Scrub the affected areas of your dog's skin with the oatmeal-filled part of the sock gently in a circular motion for approximately 10 minutes.

    • 7

Wipe the areas with a warm, wet wash cloth. Repeat the process as needed.
