Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Washcloths
- Gloves
- 1 qt. hydrogen peroxide
- Small container
- ¼-cup baking soda
- 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent
Instructions
Wipe down your pet with paper towels or a dry washcloth. Wear gloves to protect your hands from the odor. This will remove the excess skunk spray, and you will be able to see exactly where the skunk sprayed your animal.
Pour 1 qt. of hydrogen peroxide into a small container. Add ¼ cup of baking soda to the hydrogen peroxide. Stir until the baking soda dissolves. Pour 1 tsp. of liquid dish detergent into the mixture. Mix the ingredients together well.
Mix the solution into your pet's fur. Lather it into the fur, and cover the fur well. Allow it to set for five minutes. Rinse the solution out with clean water.
Tomato juice simply masks the skunk odor and does not remove it completely. You can purchase commercial skunk removal products from pet supply stores if the household ingredients do not effectively remove the odor.
