How to Trim a Miniature Poodle

The miniature poodle is a small breed of dog that is often seen in the show ring. It is known for its coat, which is true hair as opposed to fur. This makes poodles ideal for those who typically suffer from dog allergies. Miniature poodles are also known for their "cute" looks, especially those that are trimmed with a special design. This type of dog should be trimmed every six to eight weeks. It costs money to visit a professional groomer, but you can choose to give your miniature poodle a basic trim at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush out the poodle's coat with a slicker brush and comb it to remove any tangles.

    • 2

Wash the miniature poodle with a mild dog shampoo, ensuring you don't get any soap in the dog's ears or eyes. Rinse the dog completely so that no soap residue remains.

    • 3

Dry the poodle completely by using a regular hair dryer on a low setting while simultaneously brushing its coat with a pin brush. A pin brush is preferable to a slicker brush when drying the dog as it will not tear the coat.

    • 4

Take a set of electric clippers, fitted with a orblade, and trim the face first. Trim inward towards the nose to get the hair as short as you'd like. Be very careful when trimming near the eyes, and ensure the blade isn't getting too hot so the poodle remains comfortable.

    • 5

Shave the throat of the dog clean so that the hair is completely gone from the area.

    • 6

Give the poodle a "kennel clip" by trimming the hair on its legs and body to the same length, between one fourth and one half of an inch.
