Pomeranians are identified mostly by their unique fur characteristics -- it's long and gives them a pom-pom-shaped appearance. Instructions

Shampoo the Pomeranian's fur once per week to shed excess skin cells and encourage healthy hair growth. Simply place the dog in a sink, or outdoor location, and spread a quarter-size amount of a hypo-allergenic dog shampoo over its body. Gently massage the shampoo into the skin and rinse well with lukewarm water.

Apply a dog hair conditioner to the fur. Apply a quarter-size amount of conditioner to the fur and gently massage it into the skin. Rinse with warm water to remove all traces of the conditioner. Conditioners work to remove tangles and mats from the dog's fur as well as moisturize the skin underneath it.

    • 3

Brush the Pomeranian's fur once per day using a dog brush. Place the brush onto the fur and move it downward and out away from the dog's body. This prevents the dog's hair from becoming matted, which can inhibit growth as well as contribute to skin diseases. Brush the entire body.

Comb the Pomeranian using a wide-toothed comb to expose hair mats that require special attention. Brushes do not always reveal mats in the undercoat, so combing must be done as well. Once a mat is found, gently hold the mat in one hand while working the comb through the end of the mat to remove it.

Cut out mats with grooming scissors if you are unable to remove them with brushing or combing. Grasp the mat in one hand and use the scissors to cut the dog's fur as close to the mat as possible. Fur mats can lead to skin diseases that cause shedding and fur loss. Remove mats as soon as possible to encourage healthy hair growth.
