How to Clean the Ears of an Aggressive Dog

If you have an aggressive dog, it is still possible to clean his or her ears at home. A dog's ear can be a breeding ground for fungus, bacteria and allergens, if not cleaned properly and often. The wax that is formed in the ears is dark and in low quantity, but can still attract several different types of illness causing organisms. It is important to keep your dog's ears well maintained to ensure they have optimum use of their auditory organs.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the dog down onto a flat surface, such as the table.

    • 2

Ask another person to assist you in the cleaning by restraining the dog.

    • 3

Place restraining strips over the dog's mouth to ensure that he cannot bite you during the cleaning.

    • 4

Place several cotton balls into a bowl that contains dog ear cleaning solution. This solution is available at most retail pet supply chains stores or through your veterinarian.

    • 5

Pull the dog's ear flap back to expose the opening to his inner ear.

    • 6

Gently place one of the cotton balls into the opening of the dog's ear. Do not place the ball too far into the ear to avoid damage.

    • 7

Clean the outer parts of the dog's ear with a cotton swab.

    • 8

Remove the cotton ball from the ear.

    • 9

Repeat placing soaked cotton balls into the dog's ear until there is no dark wax or debris remaining.

    • 10

Remove the restraining hands and tape from your dog and allow him to shake his head. This will help prevent any fluid from entering the dog's ears and causing damage.
