How to Tape Natural Ears

Like many breeds, Great Danes have ears that allow for many different looks. While some owners prefer their Danes to have pointed ears that stand erect, others prefer the natural look, in which the ears hang down along the sides of the dog's head. Though the look is called "natural," some Danes require help to get their ears to fall to the side as the look dictates, which is completed by taping the dog's ears in position for a series of days.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of tape six inches long.

    • 2

Stick one end of the tape to the tip of one of your Dane's ears, with the tape on the inside of the ear and the sticky side of the tape facing out.

    • 3

Pass the tape to the other side of the Dane's head below the jaw.

    • 4

Stick the tape to the inside tip of the other ear.

    • 5

Cut a second piece of tape and attach it as you did the first piece, taping on the outside of the ears this time, with the second piece's sticky side facing the first piece's. After applying the second strip of tape, there should be no exposed sticky surface while the tape is in place.

    • 6

Leave the tape in place for three to five days, then remove it.

    • 7

Remove any residue from the tape by rubbing it with alcohol.

    • 8

Repeat the procedure after two to three days with the ears left untaped, until the desired shape is attained.
