How to Clean a Cork Screw Tail

Corkscrew tails are common for bulldogs, but other breeds may have this characteristic as well. A corkscrew tail grows inward, rather than being pointed outward away from the dog, which creates a pouch or indentation where the tail should be coming out. Bacteria and moisture may get caught in the indentation, so it's important to know how to properly clean a corkscrew tail in order to avoid infections.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on rubber gloves to clean the tail. This protects you from any bacteria on your dog and protects the dog from getting scratched by your fingernails.

    • 2

Wash the area around the tail indentation with warm water, dog shampoo and a washrag.

    • 3

Rinse off the entire area and dry it with a clean towel.

    • 4

Squeeze a quarter-sized amount of zinc cream or ointment onto your index finger.

    • 5

Work your index finger into the indentation of the tail and wiggle it around to apply the cream to the entire area.

    • 6

Repeat this process daily if your dog has a noticeable odor coming from the indentation, and to clear up irritation and prevent infections.
