How to Treat Bulldog Wrinkles

Bulldogs are famous for their facial wrinkles. These adorable skin folds add personality and a unique look to the adorable canines. However, while cute, the wrinkles can also wreak havoc to a bulldog if they aren't cleaned and cared for properly. Moisture and dirt left in the wrinkles can lead to infection, which is very unpleasant for your bulldog. Cleaning the folds of your bulldog can be very easy and can work wonders if you follow a few simple steps.

Instructions

Wipe out the wrinkles on your bulldog's face with either a soft, damp cloth, an unscented baby wipe that contains aloe and lanolin or DermaPet wipes. It is important that you wipe gently because the face is a sensitive area for bulldogs and it can be painful for your pooch if the folds are already irritated or infected. If the wrinkles are extremely dirty, use a gentle shampoo, such as an oatmeal-based variety, to clean them. Apply a small amount to the folds and use a wet cloth to thoroughly remove the suds.

Dry the folds after you have cleaned them with a gentle cloth. If you leave moisture in the folds, it is likely that bacteria or yeast will grow and cause an infection.

Apply a soothing ointment, such as Panalog or diaper rash cream, to the wrinkles if they are irritated. The ointment can help to soothe the painful folds and promote healing. Try to keep your bulldog from licking the ointment because it may potentially cause an upset stomach and will not help the wrinkles if it has disappeared.

Place cornstarch or medicated powder in the wrinkles if they are not red or inflamed. These substances are helpful in preventing moisture from accumulating in the folds. While the powder works better than the cornstarch, if your bulldog ingests it, he may become sick. If you are concerned that your bulldog will eat it, use the cornstarch instead.
