How to Remove Glue From Animals

When glue or adhesive comes in contact with an animal's fur, it can dry and create mats. Mats are extremely uncomfortable for any animal and removing them may seem nearly impossible. Fortunately, any kind of glue can be removed from a pet's fur with the right materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Cooking oil
  • Dawn dish soap
  • Fine-tooth comb

Instructions

    • 1

Pour about a teaspoon of cooking oil into a small bowl. Dip your fingers into the oil and rub them together.

    • 2

Work the oil into the glue on the animal's fur. Gently massage the area with your fingers and add more oil as needed in order to coat the entire area. This will help to loosen up some of the glue.

    • 3

Use a fine-tooth comb to remove any glue that has come off with the cooking oil. Hold the area of hair directly below the roots to avoid pulling. If your pet seems uncomfortable, do not continue using the fine-tooth comb.

    • 4

Fill a spray bottle with warm water. Wash and dry your hands.

    • 5

Pour a drop of Dawn dish soap onto your fingers. Work the dish soap into the glue. Spray the area once with the spray bottle and continue working the dish soap into the glue. Allow the dish soap to sit for about 10 minutes (do not let your pet lick the area). After 10 minutes, work the soap into the glue again until it is completely gone.

Rinse the area by spraying it with the spray bottle until all of the bubbles are gone. Comb out the area and allow it to dry.
