Things You'll Need
- Grooming brush
- Dog spray conditioner
- Dog shampoo
- Hair dryer
- Professional pet clipper (optional)
Instructions
Spray your Bichon liberally with a dog-safe spray conditioner each day before you begin brushing his coat. This will help get the brush through any mats that may have formed.
Brush his coat daily for 15 minutes to remove loose debris and to remove any mats. Use short, gentle strokes.
Bathe your Bichon with a pet shampoo weekly. Scrub through the double coat to rid the skin of any dirt, debris or loose hair.
Hold a hair dryer 6 to 8 inches above your Bichon's coat. While running the hair dryer across his coat, simultaneously brush your Bichon until he is fully dry. Moisture will cause mats to form, so your Bichon's coat needs to dry completely after each bath.
Use a professional clipper to trim your Bichon every six to eight weeks. Pet Bichons are trimmed close to the body, following the shape of the body. Professional grooming is strongly recommended for show Bichons.
