Bathe your schnauzer before trimming it so no debris is in the coat. This can cause dulling of the clipper's blades. Use a blade and cut with the grain of the coat. Guide the clipper starting with the dog's head and ending up at the tail. If you leave a fringe on the legs and a skirt on the belly area, use pointed scissors to cut the fringes to a reasonable length

Use ear powder in the dog's ear canals and pluck the hair out, then clean the ears with an ear cleaner for dogs. Swab the ears with cotton balls to dry them. Use blunt tipped scissors to cut the hair around the ears. Trim the beard with pointed tip scissors by evening the sides of the beard. Trim the eyebrows from the corner of the eye in an angled cut.
