Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that the Yorkie's fur is clean. If it hasn't been recently shampooed, at least wash the fur on the top of the head so that it will look nicely fresh and fluffy in the topknot. Blowdry the fur with a blowdryer if desired.

    • 2

Brush through the fur on the top of the head. Brush until the fur is tangle-free and shiny.

    • 3

Decide how much fur will be included in the topknot. Some styles use almost all of the long fur beginning just above the eyes and incorporating all of the fur from the top of the head and other styles use only a portion of the fur.

    • 4

Pull together the fur that will be part of the topknot. Make sure that the edges of the fur are even and that the portion of fur is symmetrically positioned on the top of the head.

    • 5

Place a small dollop of hair gel into the palm of your hand and work this into the portion of fur that will make up the topknot. Incorporate it fully into the fur from the roots to the ends. Brush through the fur again.

    • 6

Slip the hair band over the fur and tighten it around the fur in the same fashion as if you were putting a pony tail into the hair of a person. When the hair band is almost completely tightened, leave the fur in a loop at the top of the head and do not finish pulling it through the tightened hair band.

    • 7

Arrange the fur that cascades down from the sides of the hair band. Some Yorkies have longer fur to cascade down and some have shorter fur. Brush through the fur to make it look neat. Blend the fur in with the rest of the Yorkie's fur.

    • 8

Shield the Yorkie's eyes with your hand and lightly spray the topknot with the hair spray to set the style.

    • 9

Tie the hair bow tightly around the topknot so that it conceals the hair band and is positioned facing front on the Yorkie's head.
