Things You'll Need
- Hands A dog
Instructions
Start by taking an inventory of your dog's coat. Look at the coat closely to see how the hair is growing out, where the hair grows the thickest and where the hair appears dullest. If your dog has trouble sitting still, attach your dog to its leash and then attach the leash to an outdoor knob or fence to steady him. You will want to groom your dog outside, as this will be a very messy activity. Once you have a good idea of the composition of your dog's coat, you can begin to groom.
Using your fingers, start to gently pull at your dog's coat in small, quick motions. Try to pull the hair going with the grain, meaning pull the hair in the direction of the hair growth. The dead, dull hairs might come out in thick clumps, so do not be alarmed. This is normal. Move around your dog so that all of the ares of the coat are finger strip groomed.
Once you have finished finger strip grooming your dog, go over its coat quickly with a fine toothed dog comb to be sure that you did not miss any dead hairs. This will also smooth down the coat and give it an extra glossy sheen.
