Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dog around the widest part of the chest, plus 4 inches. Draw the pattern to scale on a sheet of pattern tissue or newspaper.

    • 2

Fold the resized pattern in half along the length. Fold the fabric and pin the pattern to the fabric, aligning the fold in the pattern to the fold in the fabric. Cut the pattern a second time from another fabric to create a reversible doggie jacket.

    • 3

Place the two cut out pieces together, right sides together. Line up the edges carefully and pin them in place. Stitch the two pieces together. Leave the ends of the neck pieces and the ends of the chest pieces open.

    • 4

Clip into the corner seam at either side and trim away any excess bulk. Turn the doggie jacket right side out by working it through one of the open ends. Smooth out the doggie jacket. Turn under 1/4-inch along each of the open ends and machine or hand sew them shut.

    • 5

Attach the soft half of the Velcro to the underside of the left neck band and chest band. Sew the rough half of the Velcro to the top side of the right side of the two bands.

    • 6

Place the jacket on the dog. Bring the neck bands together and fasten at the front of the chest. Fasten the chest bands at the dog's underside, behind the front legs.
