Things You'll Need
- Thick towel
- Blow dryer
- Dog brush
- Scissors
- Spray in conditioner
Instructions
Wrap the dog in a towel. Just wrapping the dog in a towel and holding him will not only prevent him from splattering everything with water when he shakes off, it can cut down on drying time by as much as half. Use a thick, fluffly towel so that it will absorb as much water as possible and keep your wet Yorkie warm if he is shivering.
Rub him lightly with the towel. Do not rub vigorously or you risk putting tangles in the coat. Instead, rub lightly and briskly. This will separate the hairs and make drying easier.
Blow dry the coat until it is only damp. Depending on your dog, your skill and how thick her coat is, this can take a while. If you have a professional dryer, then you can allow the dog to simply stand in front of the dryer. If you are using a regular blow dryer, then work your way from the back to the front in sections.
Comb the hair in sections. Once the hair is only slightly damp, you can begin to comb it. Some groomers will have already combed it once, while others do no brushing at all until the coat is dry. You will need to work slowly and carefully from the back to the front of the dog until there is not a single snarl.
LIghtly mist the coat with a leave-in conditioner. This should be a very light misting and the conditioner must be very light also to prevent it from weighing down the coat.
