Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Ice
- Styptic powder
Instructions
Remove excess blood from the tip of the nail by blotting with a clean, dry paper towel or cloth.
Gently place the dog's nail into 1 tbsp. of styptic powder or apply it to the nail firmly with a cotton-tipped applicator. This usually stops the bleeding.
Compress the wound with a paper towel and apply pressure.
Apply ice to the area over the paper towel or rag. Make sure your dog is comfortable, because it could take a while to stop the bleeding entirely.
Switch to a dry rag and continue applying pressure to the nail.
