Things You'll Need
- 3% hydrogen peroxide
- Baking soda
- Liquid detergent
- Hose and water
Instructions
Crate, kennel, or tie your dog somewhere outside as soon as you notice he has been skunked. Some dogs are so embarrassed by how bad they smell they will try to run away from home. Do not yell at your dog.
Gather your supplies. In a large jug or container you will mix one quart of the hydrogen peroxide, with one cup of the baking soda, and one teaspoon of the liquid soap together.
Use the hose to dampen your dog’s coat. When the entire coat is damp, pour the entire mixture over the dog. Be very careful not to get any in her eyes.
Let mixture sit for 10 minutes once your dog is covered.
Use the hose to rinse the mixture from your dog’s coat. Make sure you get all of the mixture out of the dogs hair. Any that isn’t rinsed out can dry the skin and irritate your dog.
Watch your dog. After being sprayed by a skunk some dogs become anemic. If you notice that your dog is acting especially weak, tired, or seems to be having a hard time concentrating, call your veterinarian right away.
