Train your Maltipoo to behave during the grooming sessions. These dogs have difficult hair to clip, as it is usually coarse. Expect to spend at least 3 hours from start to finish.
Clip your Maltipoo to the breed it most resembles. If it most resembles a poodle, leave the hair curly and trim the face and toes. If the dog looks more like a Maltese, comb the hair straight and clip it evenly around the face, ears and feet.
Trim the hair around the dog's bottom and eyes. This hair collects bacteria from eye drainage and feces that can cause infection. Be careful when you clip these sensitive areas.
Groom your Maltipoo every 6 weeks. Maltipoos easily develop mats, which are difficult and painful to remove. Combing your Maltipoo regularly will prevent mats from occurring.
Shave your Maltipoo if you can't provide the frequent groomings that are necessary for this breed. This will prevent mats from forming, and it will be easier to keep his coat free from tangles.
