Things You'll Need
- Vacuum with a suction adjustment
- Upholstery brush tool attachment for vacuum
- Dog biscuit or treat
Instructions
Sensitize the dog to the sound of the vacuum. Place the vacuum in the room near the dog. Turn the vacuum on. Adjust it to the low suction setting.
Calm the dog. Pet the dog with calm, soothing strokes. Provide verbal reassurance.
Brush the dog with the upholstery brush tool, unattached to the vacuum hose. Do this for several minutes.
Free the end of the suction hose. Attach the upholstery brush. Test the suction to make sure it is not too powerful.
Work the upholstery brush through the hair of the coat in wide strokes. Start on the back and move to the belly.
Reward cooperation. Provide the dog a biscuit or treat. This will help ensure success the next time.
