How to Build a Dog Shower

Dog shower designs range from tiled indoor models to basic outdoor tubs with a faucet. Building an indoor dog shower is similar to building a shower for people. It requires professional plumbing, a tub, walls and laminate or tile coverings. In some areas, it may require a permit. Check your building codes if you're planning an indoor model. An outdoor model is relatively simple to create and is cost effective.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the storage bin upside-down on the ground. Hold the shower drain on the center of the floor. Use a marker to trace the inner edge of the drain. The outer lip should overlap the traced circle. Use a utility knife to cut out the circle.

    • 2

Turn the bin right-side up and place it on the ground. Apply a thin layer of rubber cement to the lip of the drain. Place the drain over the hole and apply pressure to the lip for one minute while the cement sets.

    • 3

Stack bricks two or three high on the ground to build a base for the shower. Leave a gap beneath the drain to allow water outflow. Choose a location near a faucet to minimize the amount of hose you'll need.

    • 4

Place the small diameter side of the hose-to-faucet adapter against the top lip of the bin. Trace the diameter with a marker. Cut the hole with a utility knife.

    • 5

Push the adapter nozzle through the hole. Screw the shower flex hose over the threaded nozzle until tight. Screw the hose end into the large side of the adapter.

    • 6

Lift and place your dog in the tub. Turn on the hose and wash your dog with the shower head. The water will drain out the bottom. If the water backs up, use your hand to clear hair and debris from the drain.
