Morkie Hair Cuts

A Yorkshire terrier/Maltese mix, also called a Morkie, has a beautiful, versatile coat. The designer pooch looks adorable in everything from a long coat that reaches the floor to a basic puppy coat that keeps hair easy to maintain.
  1. The Simple Puppy Cut

    • A puppy cut is one of the easiest cuts to maintain and is best if you want something that will mean quick and easy trips to the groomers. With a puppy cut, the hair is cut no longer than an inch around the entire body. Generally the hair around the face is kept short and circular, framing the Morkie's face.

The Simple but Longer Westie Cut

    • A Westie cut is very similar to the puppy cut. In this cut, the hair on and around the is kept fluffy and round like the puppy cut, but the leg, face, and sometimes the stomach area is kept longer. The length of the longer sections is a matter of choice, but the standard length is 2 to 3 inches. The great thing about the Westie cut is that it is simple and easy to maintain, but it will require more trips to the groomer in order to keep the layers tidy and even.

    The Not-So-Simple Schnauzer Cut

    • The Schnauzer cut is not as easy, and takes more work to maintain. Typically the shoulders, stomach, tail and back are closely shaved. The legs are left long, and the beard is allowed to grow full and long as well.

    The Modified Schnauzer Cut

    • The modified Schnauzer cut is a little simpler than the Schnauzer cut. The "saddle" of the dog, the torso and back, is shaved with a No. 10 blade, and the rest of the hair along the body is left 2 to 3 inches long. In this cut, the face is also left long, and the beard full and fluffy.
