Things You'll Need
- Cotton balls
- Dog shampoo and conditioner
- Hair dryer
- Clippers
- 5F clipping blade
- Slicker brush
Instructions
Place cotton balls in the Maltese's ears and then bathe the dog using shampoo and conditioner. Blow dry the dog's fur until fully dried.
Place your hand beneath the dog's belly and hold the dog gently to prevent it from moving. Start at the back of the neck and cut in the direction that the fur is growing, which will help avoid rough, uneven lines.
Continue cutting, moving from the back of the neck down the dog's left side and its back left leg before moving on to the right side. After both the left and right sides and the left and right back legs are finished, trim the fur on the front legs.
Trim the fur on the dog's belly, making sure to hold the clippers against the belly. Cut the fur on the dog's belly against the growth of fur. Continue trimming until satisfied with the appearance.
Place the slicker brush on each section of the Maltese's fur that needs to be smoothed out. Make each section about the size of your hand. Gently and repeatedly brush backward in short strokes until the fur appears smoother.
