Bathing an Olde English Bulldogge

Olde English bulldogges are a breed that was developed by crossing the English bulldog and other similar breeds during the 1970s. The result is a dog recognized for its trademark wrinkles and muscular appearance. Olde English bulldogges require the same type of care as their English bulldog ancestors to keep their coats healthy. While they don't need frequent bathing, care must be taken to ensure they don't develop sores between their skin folds.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a cotton ball into each of your bulldogge's ears to prevent bathwater from entering the ear. Don't push the cotton ball into the ear canal. Fill the bathtub with 6 to 8 inches of warm tap water. Test the water temperature with your elbow to make sure your bulldogge won't be scalded.

    • 2

Put your bulldogge in the tub. Wet your dog's body starting behind the head and working to the tail. Create a lather in your hands using mild dog shampoo. Wash between the toes, the tail and the genital area. Don't wash the top of the head or face in this manner. A puppy will have wrinkles on the body so pay special attention to these areas; they should be clean and dry.

    • 3

Drain the tub and rinse your bulldogge with a sprayer attachment or large amounts of warm water. Wipe the inside of your bulldogge's ears to clean them. Dry your bulldogge with a towel.

    • 4

Soak several washcloths in clean water. Wipe the top of your bulldogge's head and face with the soap-free washcloths. Scrub lightly around the eyes and between wrinkles. When one cloth becomes soiled, switch to a new one. Dry your bulldogge's face completely, working between skin folds. Leaving the folds wet can cause chafing and an infection.

Powder your bulldogge between the wrinkles with cornstarch. Cornstarch is used as a drying agent for infant diaper rash and will prevent chafing between the wrinkles. Remove the cotton balls from your bullie's ears. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to your dog's nose.
