How to Groom a Wolfdog

The Czechoslovakian wolfdog is a fairly new breed, introduced in the 1950s. A mixture of the German shepherd and Carpathian wolf, their coat bears a strong resemblance to that of a wolf. Grooming this breed is easy, since they naturally shed twice a year. These dogs form a strong bond with their owners, but may be shy or aggressive with others. So it's better if the owner does the grooming.

Instructions

    • 1

Start brushing your wolfdog's thick coat while he is a puppy. This will get him used to grooming and make it easier once he is full-grown.

    • 2

Brush your dog's hair thoroughly with a bristle brush, during the shedding seasons. Regular brushing during these seasons helps reduce mats and tangles caused by this breed's heavy shedding.

    • 3

Brush his hair periodically even when it is not shedding season, to help keep his coat clean. Wolfdog coats don't get overly dirty, and brushing occasionally helps keep him clean without a wash. On the rare occasion that the coat does get very dirty, use dry dog shampoo to clean him.
