How to Keep Your Poodle Fluffy

Instructions

    • 1

Bathe and condition the poodle's coat when it becomes soiled or smelly. The poodle does not have shedding hair and it grows continually. Baths are necessary to keep the coat clean and fluffy.

    • 2

Perform routine coat trimming to prevent hair exceeding acceptable breed standard lengths. This prevents the coat from curling into tight tresses.

    • 3

Use skin and coat nourishing pet-safe shampoos such as oatmeal or organic blends to prevent skin irritation, coat dryness and frizzy ends.

    • 4

Mist the coat with pet-safe conditioning spray between baths and during grooming sessions to replenish shine and smooth texture to the hair.

    • 5

Comb the topknot and mane with a stainless steel pet comb. Use combs with teeth between 3/4 inch and 1 inch for toy poodles and combs of 1 1/2-inch teeth for standard poodles. A comb with rounded teeth is ideal to uncoil hair and remove tangles.

    • 6

Use a pure bristle brush grooming tool to brush the mane and topknot. This brush produces the fluffy appearance associated with those areas of the poodle's coat.

    • 7

Use a pin brush with a cushion base for the body of the coat and curved slicker brush for pompons and bracelets.

    • 8

Use scissors to shape ears and mane for an even smooth finish.
